How steady can you stand?
One leg. Choose eyes open or closed. Up to 30 seconds.
One leg. Choose eyes open or closed. Up to 30 seconds.
This compares your standing time, not your sway percentage.
Research averages are descriptive, not diagnostic thresholds. Protocols and maximum testing time may differ.Place the camera 2–4 m away if space allows, with the whole body and both feet visible. Stand on a firm, level surface beside a stable support, eyes open. Select the leg you will stand on, press Start, and stand still with both feet down while the calibration bar fills. When ready, lift the opposite foot; the camera starts timing after detecting the lift and attempts to stop when that foot returns near its starting height. Without camera, a countdown starts the test and you stop it manually. Always press Stop if your foot touches down, you need support, or the estimate seems wrong. The test ends at 30 seconds.
The test timer works without a camera. With camera enabled, PoseIQ draws an experimental skeleton and samples hip-centre horizontal motion relative to estimated image body height (RMS displacement as a percentage). This is a dimensionless, experimental camera indicator, not centre of pressure, force-platform sway, balance age, or a validated medical measurement. Movement, camera angle, occlusion, and lighting affect results. This version does not record, upload, or save camera video or pose landmarks. Camera frames are processed by the downloaded pose model in your browser. The optional start/stop detection uses ankle height relative to a still-standing baseline, not physical contact sensing. Camera view, occlusion or leg bending can give missed or false events. The model files load from jsDelivr (a third-party CDN), which receives ordinary model-file requests; the payment link opens Stripe only if clicked. This is the privacy statement for this prototype. Relative sway in plain English: This estimates how much your hips moved side to side while you balanced, compared with how tall you appeared on camera. For example, 2.73% means the typical size of the small side-to-side hip shifts was about 2.73% of your height as seen in the video. It does not mean you moved 2.73% of your real-world height in metres, and it is not a percentage of balance quality. Smaller means less side-to-side motion detected in that video, not necessarily healthier balance. Camera noise can affect it. The graph shows a fixed 0–5% ruler for context, not a normal range. Compare like-for-like attempts with the same leg, eyes condition and camera setup.
Age comparison: Published averages describe how long groups of people could stand on one leg. They do not establish normal values for PoseIQ camera sway. Eyes-open values for ages 60+ are drawn from Bohannon (2006); eyes-closed values for adults are drawn from Springer et al. (2007). These studies used differing protocols and time limits. Our test caps at 30 seconds, so values above 30 seconds in the literature are not directly achievable here.
The timed unipedal stance is commonly capped at 30 seconds, although testing protocols differ. These resources discuss common procedures and interpretation. This PoseIQ version is an exploratory implementation and has not undergone clinical validation. Camera sway is not comparable to force-plate centre-of-pressure metrics. There are no validated green/amber/red cutoffs for this implementation, so no risk bands are displayed. Changing camera placement changes the result. For eyes-closed testing, obtain suitable supervision and stop immediately if unsafe.
